The Little Ones

Having worked in a youth movement myself, I know exactly how it is. But if we had more body parts, surely they would too? I'll stick to two hands. The thought of a little Daniel with more is too much to bear.

First Footsteps in India: The Flight to Mumbai

Perhaps I ought to clarify... I'm actually back from India now. It's just with my godmother's niece's wedding (which I'll also talk about), university registration and a dentist appointment, I've been held up from writing. I am going to try post my stories as soon as possible.

I Want My Child To Be Agnostic

Lol, it's a wee cursory poem to be sharpening your pencil so much, Ramnath30 The main message is whatever one believes, one must believe it fully. It's not about a particular label, or about society. I tried (quite poorly) to play on the meaning of religions, hence 'Muslim... surrender to the will of God." Whether there is or isn't a will of God isn't so much the question, it's if the child chooses to be Muslim, will he be so whole-heartedly?

The satanist verse was the worst one I wrote, I just wasn't sure how to approach that. I know a bit about Satanism, and that it's not necessarily about evil but rather rebellion - hence, the opposite of right isn't wrong, but left - a left-hand path, a radical path, where 'right' refers to "social propaganda".

A case for vegetarianism

The protein content found in most meat products are available in pulses that are a staple diet of most Hindus, so vegetarians who eat a balanced diet are not denying themselves any nutrition

Perhaps you can help me then, I do want to become vegetarian, but I'm worried about falling into the same pitfall as my sister, who became anaemic. What alternative sources can provide me with Iron?

The Experiment

Thought Fox,

There are a lot of Indians in South Africa. Do Indians and whites get along well there with all that Apartheid that existed for so many years?

Did you have any Indian friends there?

Yes, plenty of Indians down here. Apartheid now is really dead and buried, and although there is some racism left, it's mainly between blacks and whites. Generally everyone gets along well enough these days, including whites and Indians.

Indian friends? quite a handful. Apart from "Juliet" and a certain mother I met in the Oriental Plaza - who you can read about in my previous posts - I have plenty of Indian friends, who i'll post more about later.

Oneness In Hinduism

Dr Goel, thank you for a very interesting article

I disagree that foreigners and non-hindus should take backseat. These are the people who ask if you worship cows and what animal you were in your past life, for dragons' sake.

However, as you mentioned, Hinduism is decentralised. From what i gather there's no absolute definition, so i thank you in expressing your views. Normally when people (especially Indians) ask me if i'm Hindu i ask them how they define Hinduism and then base it on that. it's the safest way for me.

Freud In The Springtime

Personally, i didn't like the story. But i suppose that's just me. Clearly there's people out there who can relate to this story and its characters, but i simply can't. Also, as was mentioned before, it wasn't that deep. It was a brilliant try, and there's bits of the story that were written well, but the ending was an anti-climax, and not a humorous one.

Well, that's my two cents.

Dial 'N' For Neighbour

lol, hilarious! I would join your society against phones, but i am too dependant on one myself! Our neighbour calls us at the strangest hours of the night because our dogs (which, in fact, are not our dogs) are barking and once because the moon was reflecting off the roof of our house! Once he called in the middle of the night and my sister answered. He spoke so rudely she just slammed the phone down. He wasn't happy. Also interesting to note that he himself has big parties that stretch late into the night!

At the same time, though, i have entered a dilemma. A girl i am fond of asked me to call her tomorrow... the problem is i am going on a camp in the middle of the bush... where there are no landlines. I do have a cellphone, but not enough airtime. Oh, what to do, what to do?!
